Although I played Rayman first and I’m a Marioboy, I actually look forward to Dokapon Kingdom the most. I was very surprised that the full version appeared at GCA today. The reason for my love (though people said love has no reason), is I love Mario Party 8 so much that I am going to gobble up every other cutesy board game on Wii, and since time without beginning (since 1992) I have played Sanguo Richman game. This game is almost like Richman game, except that there is a scissors-paper-stone element to the fighting component and more-strategy-less-luck is involved.
I played a warrior girl against a mage computer opponent. There are many different kinds of tiles in the board of Dokapon Kingdom. In each normal turn, you are given a chance to spin the movement wheel, which gives you 0-6 steps. You then choose which tiles you want to land on. Yellow tiles are battles against random lesser-monsters which are quite easy to fight. Money tiles give you a spin for gold. Crystal tiles give you a spin for crystals, which when use, gives you exact number of movement steps. Shop tiles let you buy/sell weapons. Shield tiles give you a random shield for free. Enemy tiles let you fight enemy bosses.
In battles, you are given 2 choices – one will turn out to be a First and the other Last. The first strike player will attack first. There are 4 selections – Attack, Strike, Magic Attack & the other I forgot. Defender has 4 selections too – Defend, Counter, Magic Defend & Give up. Defend is good against Attack and Counter is good against Strike, while Strike is good against Defend and other options. So each player has to choose carefully what to use by anticipating each other’s selection.
Upon winning each battle, you gain some experience points to level up AT, DF, HP and so on. Be careful not to lose, because if you do, your level goes back to level 1.
Because you get to choose where to go, the amount of strategy greatly increase. I really love to play this game everyday. Board game strategies is my love now.
