Let’s break this down.

Introduction

Rayman Raving Rabbids 2 is a collection of interactive minigames which promises many many hours of fun. It’s the most enjoyable multiplayer game I’ve played so far, that’s why I need to review this for the rest of the community.

Story

It’s a collection of minigames!! Each minigame has it’s own story!! This is done by a short cutscene before each minigame, which explains the situation you’ve gotten yourself into (or the situation that you’re supposed to get out of). Each of the cutscene videos are always acted by the insanely wacky “rabbids” from the first Rayman Raving Rabbid game. Their animations and reactions are extremely funny, which could lead to cheek and stomach cramps upon long exposure.

Gameplay

The control scheme in this game is an excellent showcase of the the wii’s capabilities. The controls for each minigame is unique. For example, washing laundry would require you to shake the nunchuk and wiimote as though really washing laundry and lift them to check if it’s clean. As you can gather, this would be extremely tiring if you play for a long hours at a time.

There is a wide selection of minigames which you are able to choose, either in the preset collection or a customized set of minigames. I did create an insane mode with all the games at one time, resulting in a total play time of approx 2½ hours. My friends & I ended up with super tired arms for TWO DAYS! At this juncture, I would like to recommend you to do some arm stretching before starting to play. I am not kidding.

There are many unlockables in this game, which include costumes and an alternative shooting game. More on unlockables later.

Fun Factor

This game is literally fun filled. The rabbids and their wacky antics are sure to make your laugh. Not forgetting seeing your friends in their most unglam moments, showing you a side of them you’ve never seen before. Here’s a sample of my gameplay video featuring a couple of my friends and myself. Although we look stupid, but we had loads of fun.

Graphics & Music

Graphics on this game isn’t fantastic. However, they are cute and definitely appealing to children. Music is well developed and perfectly suited for each minigame. This definitely adds to the gaming experience.

The shooting “side game” features real life city landscapes from all over the world, but with a twist. Rabbids are superimposed onto the city backdrop almost seamlessly, the result is a very beautifully crafted minigame.

Rabbids are taking over New York!!

Minigames & Unlockables

As you know, the game is a collection of minigames. Even more minigames can be unlocked after playing through the initial collection of challenges. Adding more fun to your initial menu of games.

Other unlockables include costumes that add spice to your gameplay as well as allowing your buddies to play as their own favourite characters. Customizing the outfits also allow for players to differentiate themselves between each other easily. I personally spent about an hour customizing my rabbids, with some rather cute creations.

Replayability

This game can be played over and over and over and over again. Seriously. Each time is a different experience because of the people you play with. Definitely a great party game.

Online Play

No online play whatsoever, but this game is all about multiplayer. In fact, the only single player mode is the challenge mode in which you challenge your own high scores. Not much fun there.

What I like

  • Great multiplayer fun

  • Music complements the gameplay

  • Gameplay is suitably easy so that you can just pick up the control and start playing

  • High replayability

What I don’t like

  • Lack of online content

Overall

In conclusion, this game is the most enjoyable multiplayer game I’ve played so far. It’s also unlikely that I would find one in the near future. Definitely a keeper, even if it’s just for the multiplayer features.

This is my ultimate party game. Hope you will get to enjoy this game as much as I did.
